Chronology of cameras Dandong camera Factory
Traduction de Daniel C.
This TLR has been manufactured in People’s Republic of China during the eighties.
The plant which produced it was located in a town named Dangong nearby the north Korean border in the Liaoning province.
In Chinese language, Mudan means peony . You may find the flower represented on the viewer hood as well as on the camera handbag made of rhinoceros leather (I suppose considering the thickness of it).
The camera offers two formats ( 6x6 and 4,5x6 cm) .The smallest format is obtained through the use of an internal mask.
The front of the camera bears two ideograms that I believe are the two ways for writing Peony in Chinese.
Fronts are found in various variations. Some of them are showing the name Peony written in English between the two ideograms.
Below the lens is written a Chinese sentence the translation of it means “Mudan Camera Factory”
Mudan cameras were sold in China in the “Friendship stores” . The aim of these stores for foreigners was to promote Chinese industry and art and craft.
The Mudan MD1 is obviously quite similar to the Seagull 4B, more common in our country.
